I'm really torn here. I love the first several books in this series. I bought them all and devoured them!I was really frustrated to begin reading this one and have NO idea what the heck was going on. It turns out, this story takes place after the characters in this story collide with the characters in a different series that I don't read and don't really want to read. It introduces and refers to characters that mean nothing to me until I read this other story..... and I could not care less about the fate of these other characters at this point in time. Our protagonist refers to these terrible events that happen in the other series that I just really had to shrug off, because..... who are you!?!
Whyyyyyy would you do this to us Shannon. I almost don't want to read the other series just out of spite.

Rootbound The Elemental Series Book 5 eBook Shannon Mayer Reviews
Rootbound is the best in the series so far. It takes place after the big battle in Blood of the Lost (Rylee Adamson series). You don't have to read the Rylee Adamson series to read the Elemental series, although I do recommend it if you're looking for another good read. There are some crossovers between the two series, but Shannon does a good job of summarizing what happened, so you're not lost and wondering what happened. Lark picks between Cactus and Ash, but before she can pursue her true love, the Mother Goddess sends her on another quest. In typical Lark fashion, trouble follows her as she travels to each Elemental home base. She's forced to make tough decisions, but I think she will eventually bring all the Elemental families together and unify them. As Lark embarks on her quest, her battle to control Spirit continues to get harder. She knows she will have to learn more about it and learn to control it, but the only one who can help her is Talan. And can he be trusted? For that matter can the Mother Goddess be trusted? This book is action packed and sucks you into the Elemental world. Through Shannon's world building, you can almost feel the calm of the Redwood forest, smell the ocean air, feel the suppressing heat of the volcano, and feel the cool breezes at the mountain top. I can't wait till the next installment in this series. I need to know what's going to happen and if she's going to be alright (I won't spoil the book and say which she, but OMG I'm on pins and needles).

25 years have passed since Larkspur's banishment into the desert far from her home in The Rim. Being far from home for Elementals for that long can drive most mad (and not in a good way) but not The Destroyer. More determined than ever, she has a need to put things right. The "Mother Goddess" has another agenda for our Larkspur. Lark needs to go and retrieve the gemstones she gave each of the 4 Elemental leaders, before they are all driven mad with power no one can handle. Easy peasy, right?? This is Lark we're talking about, so if it were easy, that wouldn't be much of a book, would it?? Nope, she can't just go in and say please, she has to take them back, because the leaders don't want to let go of that kind of power. Oh, did I mention that Blackbird is also after the stones?? No??? Hmmmm.... Maybe I've got them all and am going mad myself...
Anyway, This is another ROCKING (see what I did there?? Stones...Rocking LOL) Larkspur book that right from the beginning is chock full of suspense, action, deceit, love and loss. Shannon Mayer just can't go wrong.
Shannon Mayer just has the ability to pull you into her stories, hold you tight and don’t let go till the bitter end. Phew, then you can release that breath you didn’t even realised you’ve been holding. But then again, she also leaves you hanging and wanting more!
This was a really interesting journey with Lark. She had to face numerous enemies and dangers as well as deal with her internal emotional struggles while grieving lost loved ones. The
innovative plot was expertly told and … there was a totally unexpected twist with an enemy that is far worst and stronger than initially anticipated. Book 5 was big on action and deception, low on romance and has very creative Lark-style “non-swearing” that was entertaining.
This book, which is very aptly named, is not to be missed! AND (dramatic pause) a full length story about Ash while Lark was in the Oubliette, is also available. Can’t wait to read it!
Book 5 of the Elemental Series.
You find Lark still trying to handle the loses from the battle in the last Rylee book. The war against the demons took a large toll on Lark and Rylee. Lark has changed and will never be the same, but her constant companion Peta is right there by her side.
I have been reading all of the Shannon Mayer for the past several months and find that I never get bored with her stories. Lark is one of the strong female characters that Shannon creates and is very believable. I feel like I know her personally and am right there for all of her adventures.
In book 5, Lark is dealing with many difficult situations and then to be sent out on another adventure by Mother Goddess. Nothing is as it seems, who is telling the truth…who is trying to lead her a stray…what is the next obstacle she will encounter.
If you haven’t read any of the other 4 books in the Elemental Series, you should read them first for the background of the story to make sense. You will not be disappointed!
